Representative Matters

Since the Firm’s founding, the attorneys at Burstyn Law have been entrusted with some of the most high profile matters in America.

While many of the Firm’s matters are out of the public eye, several have been publicly reported.

Alan Dershowitz v. Netflix, Inc., 21-cv-21961 (S.D. Fla.)

  • Engaged by Professor Alan Dershowitz to serve as his personal and lead trial counsel in his $20 million defamation claim against Netflix for its portrayal of him in the Filthy Rich series. Professor Dershowitz is arguably the world’s most well-known attorney. After becoming Harvard Law School’s youngest professor, he went on to represent clients including Nelson Mandela, Julian Assange, O.J. Simpson, and a former President of the United States in impeachment proceedings before Congress.

Bretholz v. GlaxoSmithKline LLC, 9:21-mc-82184 (S.D. Fla.)

  • Obtained an order completely quashing a subpoena issued by Pfizer, GlaxoSmithKline, Sanofi, and other major pharmaceutical companies arising from In re: Zantac (Ranitidine) Prods. Liab. Litig., 9:20-md-02924 (S.D. Fla. 2020), one of the largest products liability cases in American history. Burstyn Law defeated the subpoena after months-long written arguments and intense oral argument against several of the largest law firms in the world and pharmaceutical companies with a combined market cap in excess of 500 billion dollars.

In re: January 2021 Short Squeeze Trading Litigation

  • Argued for the consolidation and transfer to the Southern District of Florida (Miami) of all litigation against Robinhood arising from its decision to tamper with trading volume in so-called “meme stocks.” While every other firm that took a position on this issue opposed Mr. Burstyn’s proposal, it was accepted in full by the United States Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation.

National Football League Negotiations

  • Sean represented one of the top wide receivers of all time, following the athlete’s Super Bowl win, and personally negotiated against the NFL in disciplinary discussions directed by Commissioner Roger Goodell. These negotiations resulted in highly favorable outcomes for the athlete.

United States of America v. Bortnovsky, et ano., 22-cr-10006 (D. Mass.)

  • Served as counsel to an individual charged by the Department of Justice with participating in a multi-million-dollar insider trading conspiracy. The individual was committed to his exoneration and the United States Government ultimately dropped all charges before trial.

The Collection LLC v. Porsche Latin America, Inc., Porsche Cars North America, Inc., et ano., 2022-018640-CA-01 (Fla. 11th Jud. Cir.)

  • Lead trial counsel to The Collection, one of the world’s preeminent luxury vehicle dealerships, in its $300 million lawsuit against Porsche.

Shoma Coral Gables, LLC v. Gables Inv. Holdings, LLC and Ugo Colombo, 2016-2102-CA-40 (Fla. 11th. Jud. Cir.)

  • Argued and prevailed against a former Justice of the Florida Supreme Court to obtain a directed verdict in favor of the Firm’s corporate defendant client. Served as personal trial counsel to Mr. Colombo and obtained a jury verdict of zero damages against him.
